Family Covens are family units composed in many ways. A Family Coven can be a single person developing the art and craft to share with the community or his/her future children or Student-Seekers. A blended, traditional or non-traditional family grouping can also be a Family Coven. Family Covens are bound together in the belief that, without outside intersession, a person or family unit can develop a working and meaningful tradition of practice that is valid and can be of great benefit to an extended community. FWTI recognizes any family unit that is actively seeking personal spirituality first and foremost, and/or educating their children about any and all spiritual paths as a Family Coven. The head of Family Covens are the Mother Priestess and Father Priests. If the Family is made up of one individual then they are their own Priest or Priestess.Family Covens (FamCovs) seek association with Family Wiccan Traditions International in order to take advantage of the spiritual training and emotional and legal support the larger tradition can provide. FamCovs seek association so that they can be connected with other families and individuals who have a belief of personal responsibility without a dogma of practice. These connections are made through the FWTI Community Site, receiving of education materials via the Community Site, listing on FWTIs web site and utilization of the various on line e-list available. Some Family Covens even choose to take formal training through Family Wiccan Traditions International to improve the quality of their relationships through the Degree Seeker Program. Family Covens make application to FWTI, agree to uphold the Family Wiccan Traditions International Pledge, and submit yearly dues . Yearly dues for Family Covens are $35 per year and are not impacted by the number of persons within a family group. Family Wiccan Communities Family Wiccan Communities are groups of Family Covens that agree to have events, seminars, special guest speakers, training sessions and Sabbat celebrations together.
It only takes two registered Family Covens to establish a Family Wiccan Community. Family Wiccan Communities can meet as frequently or infrequently as the participating Family Covens desire. Family Wiccan Communities can be as formal or informal as the group desires. An elected facilitator who is responsible for communication between the Family Wiccan Community and the FWTI, oversees the day to day function of any formed Family Wiccan Communities. The group makes application to FWTI and submits yearly dues. Family Wiccan Communities agree to uphold the Family Wiccan Traditions International | | Family Wiccan Communities (continued) Pledge and devote themselves to providing a real environment for pagan families to meet, grow, learn and develop their own Family Covens. In exchange, Family Wiccan Communities receive access through the Community site to group lessons that anyone can facilitate. These lessons have not only education information for adults. They also explain how to include children who attend. Family Wiccan Communities also receive special discounts on FWTI events, seminars and workshops, as well as, receiving a free web page to help promote their community. Dues are $95 per year. Degree-Seekers A Degree Seeker is someone within the tradition who wants the formal training within a degree system beyond the 1st Degree. FWTI thinks that the 1st Degree ordination is a personal journey. Family Covens who pay dues have access to the Degree Seeker University where they can find an Individual program of study toward a 1st Degree within FWTI. This program is designed to take up to 13 months; however, there is no time limit imposed. If a person, feels they have completed the necessary material and perform a self-initiatory ritual, FWTI will recognize them as a 1st Degree upon their word. After a the 1st Degree is obtained, a person can apply to become a Degree Seeker toward the goal of ordination. They must make application to an approved Family Coven who has an ordained High Priest or High Priestess. Each Family Coven will have different requirements; however, a common requirement will be that the person can provide satisfactory proof to the HP or HPS that they did in fact complete the 1st Degree Program. HP and HPS must train students through their 2nd and 3rd degrees by overseeing a minimum of requirements set down by the tradition. However, HP and HPS can add to these requirements as they see fit. Degree Seekers can be asked to offset the cost of their training materials to their High Priest or High Priestess (printing, postage); however, are not asked to pay any other fee or due to Family Wiccan Traditions International. FWTI suggests a monthly fee from a Degree Seeker to their High Priest or High Priestess of $6 to $10 to cover printing and postage costs. If a Degree Seeker believes that they are being charged an unfair amount or they are being denied training based upon their ability or inability to pay, please contact Stone Dragonstone, High Priest, FWTI, immediately. High Priests (HP) and High Priestesses (HPS) of FWTI are ordained through the FWTI Family Covens with an already ordained High Priest or High Priestess. (See Degree Seeker).
HP and HPS have fulfilled the minimum requirements for ordination as set down by FWTI. They have agreed to live and work their ministry by The Pledge. They have agreed to not turn Degree Seekers away because of an ability or inability to offset teaching costs. They have agreed to protect Family Covens, Degree Seekers and the Tradition. Within FWTI, once a High Priest or High Priestess is ordained, their ordination cannot be revoked or disavowed. A HP or HPS can be found guilty of breaking The Pledge and the relationship of support between FWTI and the HP or HPS can be discontinued. FWTI does not micromanage Family Covens, High Priests or High Priestesses.
